February 2005
We teamed up with a professional movie stunt company to train the scouts
in the art of stunts. These were the guys who were involved in Lord
of the Rings, Harry Potter and Troy, so we were in good hands.
Explosions
We learned how to use a trampette to act out explosive leaps. This
evolved from straight forward jump and crashes, to somersault, high
leaps and jumping over obstacles.
Unarmed combat
Punches, kicks, headbutts, slaps and more were involved as we learned
how to stage barroom brawl. All without any actual physical contact.
This culminated in a choreographed fight scene for each pair of scouts,
complete with smashing a glass bottle over each other's heads.
Armed combat
Using training swords we learned the Troy fight sequence, then made
up some moves of our own. By the end you could not tell us or Brad
Pitt apart.
Falls

We performed some falls from the tower, the scariest one being the fall
of faith, where you fall backwards onto the crash mat below. Actually
very difficult to do, no matter how many abseils or cliff jumps we've
done before.
Performance
The day culminated in a performance for parents at the end, which was
very well received. The DVD is available shortly, in all good video
stores. Expect to catch us on the big screen soon. From here on, we
perform all our own stunts.
A big thank you to Naomi N and Greg B, who both did us big favours in
sourcing a last minute change of venue and tower.
