SCOUTS IN CHARGE
...a PL's perspective
September 2004 saw six individual patrols from Troop B running
their own camps across Surrey. See the official report here,
however read on for one Patrol Leader's perspective on the weekend...
Scouts in Charge Report Friday Everybody arrived at Bentley Copse camp site at 7.00pm. We started off by transporting all our kit to our woodland site. We then pitched our DC and Storm Haven tents. This is where our first problem arose, we forgot the dollys. However this was not a big problem as we managed to make our own dollys. After a hard 2 hours we decided to start cooking. We had some hot dogs and toffee doughnuts which were very enjoyable. We went to sleep at around 10.30pm. Saturday We got up at about 7.30am and had some cereal and bacon sarnies. This got us ready for a hard day. We started by meeting up with James to do some rifle shooting. Some scouts had never done shooting before and were surprisingly good. Everybody enjoyed the shooting a lot. After our shooting we were already on to our next activity - pioneering. Our project for the day was to make a swing boat. With great difficulty we managed to make it. The first idea didn't work however. We used a bench for the boat which didn't work so we changed our plan and used a tire instead. This worked brilliantly and everyone got pretty high on the swing. After a tiresome day (get it) we wanted to have a nice dinner. So we did, we had a delicious chicken tikka masala. We followed this by making a fire. Unfortunately it wasn't very private as there were many D of E people, and because they were rubbish at making fires they crowded around ours. Luckily Tom S stood up for us all and sure told them. We ended up going to sleep at 9.00pm. Sunday Sunday kicked off with a nice eggy bread cook up. We followed this with a short hike around the area of Peaslake. In the hike we all learned what to do if someone gets injured. e.g. breaks an ankle. After the hike it was time to pack up camp. As we had some spare time we decided to have a tug of war, which was great fun. We left the campsite at 4.00pm. All in all it was a good camp and I think everybody enjoyed it. By Michael G. |
