B ACTIVE: 2002
Taking things further
2002 was an
eventful year for Troop B. Having gained a regular ASL
the Troop swelled in size and a vast array of activities were undertaken.
In September
the new Programme came into effect at 1st Hersham which meant several
of our members joined Explorer Scouts
and Troop B began to adjust its programme accordingly. Anyway - read
on to find out what we got up to!
MUDDY XMAS - Dec 2002 Following on from the party at our HQ, Troop B joined Troop A for a fantastic day of off-road motorsport at Leisure Pursuits in West Sussex. Conditions were ideal for our final event of 2002, and Scouts had a go on rally karts, quad bikes, the Dizzymobile and a 4x4 car!
CHRISTMAS PARTY - Dec 2002 The legendary Troop B Christmas Party didn't disappoint. Three hours of fun, food and music made for a great evening - the leaders spent an entire day scrubbing jelly from various areas of the hut! Absolute favourites are now Splat the Jelly, Custard pie the Leaders, baguette fights... to name but a few! Check out these images of the night...
Those who could hack the party pace came back the next day for Muddy Xmas - see above. BAG PACK FUNDRAISER - Dec 2002 The first major event of our fundraising drive saw Troop B descend on Sainsbury's for five sessions where we packed bags and trolleys for Christmas shoppers whilst collecting donations from the public. Huge pats on the back to all Scouts who came along, and even bigger thanks to Sainsbury for having us and Starbucks for letting us take over a corner of their shop! DISTRICT
FOOTBALL COMPETITION - Dec 2002An afternoon at the local leisure centre saw no less than three teams from Troop B competing against teams from all over the district in the annual 5-a-side competition. We are very proud to announce that our teams took both 1st and 3rd places overall! Well done guys! CLIFFHANGER CLIMBING WEEKEND - Nov 2002 A great weekend of climbing, albeit not in the best of weather! Harrisons Rocks provided one of many settings for various different aspects of climbing, taking advantage of the recent climbing authorisation gained by one of our leaders. SURVIVAL SPECIAL - Oct 2002 The last weekend of October saw some weather severe enough to rip down trees, force planes and trains to be cancelled and roads to be closed. Oh, and it's when we held our survival camp!
Scouts learned - and used - all sorts of vital outdoor survival skills in an exciting weekend at a remote campsite. The weekend is best summed up in the words of one of our scouts - click here to read it and see a few pictures too! SUMMER
CAMP 2002: LAKE DISTRICT - July/August 200223 Scouts. Five leaders. Eleven awesome days. We rocked the Lake District! There's far too much to write here about our showpiece full Troop camp of 2002 - so instead click here to jump to the SC2002 page! You know you want to... PURBECK EXPEDITION - July 2002 Some Troop B scouts ventured to Brownsea Island to recreate Baden-Powell's original first Scout camp there. WINTER SPORTS SCOTLAND - Easter 2002In April 2002, seven Troop B Scouts joined leaders Ed, Matt and Alison (guest leader from Oatlands) for the adventure of the year! DEEP DEEP DOWNS MOUNTAIN BIKING - March 2002 A great weekend on the North Downs for many Troop members and their bikes. Some amazing weather contributed to the fun as those new to MTB learned the basics whilst those with more experience tackled the more demanding routes. Centred around Holmbury St Mary YHA, a super time was had by all and everyone was suitably knackered by the end - including the leaders! LONDON EXPERIENCE - Feb 2002 A top weekend up in the capital - staying at Baden Powell House International Hostel, visiting the London Dungeon, Science Museum, Cabinet War Rooms, Science Musuems, Haunted London walk and loads more. A great way to see the big smoke. Click here for a report & pics! COTSWOLD OUTDOOR - Feb 2002 An evening with the whole of Cotswold's store in Kingston to ourselves. Asked staff loads of questions and had a talk about winter mountain walking. Great way to spend a Tuesday evening. LANDYACHTING - Jan 2002 Another chance to sail along the beach at Brean Sands - stunning Sunday activity. Could do with a bit more wind next time though, but this didn't stop everyone having a great time. GILWELL WINTER CAMP - Jan 2002 Had a brill time in the mud at Gilwell Park. Did all the activities, had a right laugh, ruled the disco and went home very happy. See http://www.wintercamp.org.uk/ for more details.
