B ACTIVE: 1999-2000
Activites from the archives
Here's a selection of what we got up to in 1999/2000,
which is the first time we started properly recording out activities
on Troopb.com.
WHITE WATER RAFTING - December 2000
EXPLORER AWARD EXPEDITIONS - December 2000
SURVIVAL SKILLS WEEKEND - November 2000
Eight tough Scouts built their own shelters, dug their own toilets, cooked on a fire all weekend, skinned rabbits, gutted fish and generally had fun as the first part of the training towards the Survival Skills badge. At Roverdene Camp Site. SUMMER CAMP 2000: A View To A Thrill - July 2000
Once again, Troop B had a fantastic summer camp - this time set in the amazing Wye Valley, South Wales. Themed around James Bond, loads of fun was had by all - click here for the official SC2000 page with loads of info! END OF TERM WATERSPORTS DAY: July 2000
Just a week before the summer holidays, Troop B rounded off the term in style with a Watersports Activity Day at a purpose-built centre in Sussex. Duringthe day, we had professional tuition, and then got let loose on activities such as windsurfing, kayaking and sailing. As we were all having so much fun, we couldn't take many photo's, but here's one of a member of the Troop windsurfing: (click to enlarge)
Just before the end of the Summer holidays, Troop B spent a fantastic afternoon at Prince's Club near Heathrow. Following expert tuition, everyone got the chance to try kneeboarding, wakeboarding and cableskiing - all at speeds of 30-40kph! To round it all off, we all got a go on the Torpedo ride - known to many as a 'banana boat', this involved getting pulled at great speed around a lake on a huge inflatable banana by a jet-boat. Great fun - honest! Click on either photo for a large version! (click 'back' to return). We intend to run a wakeboarding course in Summer 2001, so watch this space! ![]() DAY AT RAF ODIHAM - August 1999At the beginning of August twelve Scouts and two leaders from Troop B went on our latest 'king' activity. We spent a day being given the VIP treatment at RAF Odiham - and revelled in the pleasure of being the only Scout group / Youth Group in this area to be allowed to do so! During the day we explored the Chinooks, had a Presentation about the RAF, went screaming round in the RAF police vehicles, played unihoc, undertook the RAF fitness test and generally had great fun! ![]() SURREY SCOUTABOUT 1999: 25th - 27th June This superb event was held at the South of England Showground at Ardingley, near Gatwick. Troop B joined over 3,300 Scouts & Guides from throughout Surrey for fantastic activities such as bungee running, climbing, abseiling, aerial runways, quad biking, Dual (a la 'Gladiators'), football, a Disco and much more - in fact there were over 150 to choose from.
We've stuck the photo's on a separate page for your convenience - but do take a peek! Click Here for the Scoutabout Photo's and an activity list. SPRING FEVER - THE MAFEKING CREW REVUE - March 99
Throughout February and March, every spare moment was spent scriptwriting and rehearsing for "Spring Fever" - our Revue staged to parents and the local community. The night was a huge success, comprising amongst other items, various comedy sketches, a rock duet, music, the Troop anthem and "Docrewmentary", a video about our Troop's activities. Congratulations to everyone who took part in this - every Scout involved gained the Entertainer's badge. DUSK-TO-DAWN HIKE
We have run this popular activity twice in the past two years, starting at about 10pm and hiking in to our HQ, arriving at about 4am. This is often (especially for younger Scouts) the first chance to see the sun rise during an activity, so is always popular. WIDE GAMES No active Troop is complete without 'Wide-games' - and Troop B is no exception. We try to fit in at least 2 a term, and sometimes we fit in more during the summer. Themes have beed as varied as Smugglers, Boar Hunt and 007 Challenge, at many different locations. CHRISTMAS PARTY Traditionally Troop B have gone out of their way to have a great Cristmas Party, and the past couple of years have been no exception. Starting on the regular Troop night, which is filled with fun, games, music and lots of food, the party carries on on the Friday night with a fab end-or-term activity - following on from tobogganing in 1997 and Laserquest in 1998, this year saw us go-karting at Buckmore Park in Kent. Awesome!
