B ACTIVE!
Info on all our adventures outside of Troop meetings
Troop
B has a solid reputation for being one of the most adventurous and active
Scout Troops about. We're always looking out for new activities and
experiences to try (if you've got any suggestions we'd be pleased to
hear them!). Don't forget that weekly meetings
and summer camp both have their own areas on
the site. On this page you can find a round-up of recent activities, some of which have links to more detailed reports, photo's and so on. Activites from previous years have been archived to make pages easier to read, and you can find these archive pages by following the links at the bottom of this page. It was Patrol Leaders only as Troop B took to the Isle of Skye for five days of awesome scrambling, camping and more. This report is well worth a read - click here! FAMILY
ACTIVITY DAY - May 2005Back for 2005 was the Troop B family day - this time bigger and better than ever. We managed to persuade the rain to hold off at Walton Firs as Troop B scouts and their families took part in a bungee run, bouncy castle, shooting, archery, climbing, abseiling and more - culminating in a mass race on the assault course! This month saw some fantastic fundraising efforts organised by parents and supporters of Troop B. Our stalls at the Oatlands Village Fayre raised a superb £600 and a Race Night (the same evening!) raised an unprecedented £900 for Troop funds. A big thank you to everyone involved! Bank holiday weekend? Must be the perfect excuse for 3 days in Snowdonia then! Check out how we had two great mountain walks, introducing many younger Troop members to mountaineering, and still managed to squeeze in a presentation to Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue! More here... Alton Towers unleashed a new ride for 2005 - Rita, which accelerates from 0-100kph in 2.5 seconds, so naturally Troop B had to check it out. We also threw in some abseiling at Miller's Dale for good measure. In the dark... (report here) Four days in the Yorkshire Dales, based near Ilkley, gave Troop B the chance to take on everything from hiking to caving, and still have time to run our own casino! Find out what we got up to on this great (if muddy) weekend by checking out the report. URBAN ARTS: DJs & MCs - March 2005 Over twelve weeks the budding DJs and MCs at Troop B learnt how to mix and scratch, write lyrics, and generally perform like kings of the street. The course resulted in a CD single performed by the Scouts - we hope to have a sample online in the near future. The professionals who worked on Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter took a day to teach us how it's done. Armed and unarmed combat, explosions and falling safely were all covered - don't miss the report (click here to read it). Two and a half days of scenario-based survival, this tested the skills of everyone involved. From pheasant plucking to breaking into the jail to release the prisoners, from hammocks to swimming for food - this was our hardest survival exercise yet. Read about it here. SKATE LONDON: GET AGGRESSIVE - January 2005 Street skating under the Westway in London landed to take those interested a step further from previous skating activities. Read more here. Troop B added its own twist to the excellent Winter Camp at Gilwell Park. Disco's, abseils and Monster Trucks were all involved - check out the report! RECENT ACTIVITIES ARCHIVED - January 2005 2005 is set to be a massive year for Troop B, so we've cleared the decks on this page to make space for it. However if you missed out on anything we got up to last year (or before), do not fear! Simply click the link in the red box below to see our archives from previous years.
